With the Alliance of American Football all but set to fold before the season can even end, America’s other spring football league doesn’t plan on having that same fate for themselves the second time around.
XFL owner Vince McMahon is taking the second installment of his football league very seriously this time around, which is rolling out in 2020.
The wrestling company revealed last week that McMahon cashed out $270 million of his WWE holdings to finance the launch of a professional football league.
“Mr. McMahon executed the sale primarily to fund a separate entity from the Company . . . which Mr. McMahon established to explore investment opportunities across the sports and entertainment landscapes, including launching a professional football league under the name ‘XFL’,” the company said in its SEC filing.
However, the actual investment is reported to be much larger, around $500 million over the first three years according to ESPN.
One thing is for sure: McMahon is taking this revamped XFL very seriously.
McMahon, 73, is worth an estimated $3.2 billion, according to Forbes.
