48 seconds into her much-anticipated comeback to the UFC Octagon — Ronda Rousey found herself being knocked out by Amanda Nunes and it seemed like her UFC career was over.
Since then, she’s signed on to wrestle full-time with the WWE and that was just the start of good things to happen to her.
In a trailer announcing her new role, Rousey revealed she is the voice of Sonya Blade in the upcoming “Mortal Kombat 11.”
“Sonya Blade was the first kick ass girl I saw come onto the scene,” says Rousey in the video streamed during the event. “I admittedly kind of emulated her in my own way. And now I get to try and be her.”
“The first time I can remember playing “Mortal Kombat,” my mom was a college professor and one of her students actually let me play. I was a complete button masher but I was Raiden and I beat him as Raiden and it was like the first time I had beat an adult at anything.”
Sonya Blade was 1 of eight eight characters revealed today, alongside Sub-Zero, Scorpion, Skarlet, Baraka, Raiden, Geras, and Shao Khan.

“When I was a little kid, there wasn’t many female role models in any kind of action, kick-ass space. I used to have to invent people in my head,” Ronda said. “But with Mortal Kombat, I didn’t have to make anyone up. There was Sonya Blade. She was the one who looked the most like me.”
“The idea that the fate of the world would have to be fought over in a martial arts tournament was the coolest thing ever. Of course, in my mind, I’m like, ‘I want to fight to defend Earthrealm!’ she said. “It wasn’t just a bunch of tough guys, but there was this beautiful blonde woman there who was just as tough if not tougher than all of them blew my mind a little kid.”
