Is this the end for John Cena’s illustrious and storied run in the squared circle?
Last Saturday, Cena lost to Solo Sikoa in a singles match at WWE’s Crown Jewel 2023 pay-per-view via pinfall. It was yet another instance of the 46-year-old legend selflessly “putting over” a younger talent at one of WWE’s major events.
In the early hours of Thursday morning, Cena posted a cryptic photo on Instagram of the iconic “Looney Tunes” ending that read, “The End.” The 16-time world champion didn’t write anything in the caption of his post.
Johnson and Dave Bautista (“Batista” in WWE), Cena has quickly emerged as one of the top movie stars in Hollywood, so he’s had very limited time with WWE over the years.
Rumors about Cena potentially retiring have been ongoing for a while now, but nothing’s official until he makes the announcement himself. Keep in mind that he needs just one more world champion to break the all-time record he holds with Ric Flair, so Cena might not be keen on walking away until/unless he gets lucky No. 17.
Cena debuted for WWE programming on the June 27, 2002 edition of SmackDown, where he memorably confronted one of the company’s top stars in Kurt Angle. Little did the wrestling world know at the time that they were looking at the future face of the WWE.
