AEW had to make the difficult but correct choice when they terminated the contract of a legendary wrestler this week.
B.J. Whitmer has been terminated from his AEW contract following an arrest for domestic assault.
Whitmer was arrested in Kentucky on June 4th and charged with strangling in the first degree, a Class C felony that carries a potential jail sentence of 5 to 10 years. He was released on Monday on a $25,000 bail.
AEW announced that he had been fired and would release a statement shortly afterward on the matter.
“B.J. Whitmer has been terminated following his arrest on domestic violence charges. While talent and staff are ultimately responsible for their own personal actions, this behavior is intolerable within AEW. AEW has reached out to offer support to those impacted by his behavior.”
Whitmer had been serving as a backstage producer for the wrestling company up until the time he would be terminated for his alleged actions.

Whitmer has been with AEW since they formed in 2019, and has occasionally served as a guest judge for ROH Pure wrestling matches.
Whitmer is best known for his time in Ring of Honor, where he is a four-time Tag Team Champion.
We send nothing but prayers to the alleged victim who has to deal with this situation after going through such a frightening moment in their life.
