Liz Cambage’s time with the Los Angeles Sparks is over.
On Tuesday, Khristina Williams of Girls Talk Sports TV reported Cambage “wants out” of Los Angeles and “quit” the team.
Soon after the news, she would agree to a “contract divorce” with the team.
“It is with support that we share Liz Cambage’s decision to terminate her contract with the organization, Sparks managing partner Eric Holoman said. “We want what’s best for Liz and have agreed to part ways amically. The Sparks remain excited about our core group and are focused on our run towards a 2022 playoff berth.”
Cambage has averaged 13.0 points, 6.4 rebounds, and 1.6 blocks in 25 games with the Sparks, who are tied for third in the Western Conference at 12-15. This sudden backlash with the team came as a result of the team firing head coach Derek Fisher after an underwhelming 5-7 start to the season.

This comes just five months after Cambage said “it was L.A. or out for me. There was nowhere else I wanted to be,” after signing with the Sparks following two years with the Los Vegas Aces.
Cambage then spent the 2019 and 2021 seasons with the Las Vegas Aces, sitting out 2020 due to health and safety concerns.
She has been the subject of controversy after she was exposed for directing racial slurs at Nigerian players during a scrimmage ahead of the 2021 Tokyo Olympics. An investigation revealed that Cambage told players to “go back to your third world country” and slapped one across the face, leading the team to call off the game early.
