Maya Moore announced on Good Morning America that she and her husband, Jonathan Irons, had their first child back in February.
Moore and Irons wed in 2020, shortly after Irons was freed after spending over two decades in prison.
Back in 2019, Moore shocked the basketball world by announcing, at the height of her career, that she would sit out this season. She wanted to prioritize things that were important to her, she said, including family and ministry. And at the heart of that, she said, is the cause of criminal justice reform.
Moore said her passion was sparked by a visit to a prison more than 10 years ago and one inmate she met there — Jonathan Irons.
Irons was tried and convicted for a burglary and shooting he didn’t commit at the young age of 16. With her help, his conviction was overturned in July of 2020.
On the night that Irons was released from prison, he proposed to Moore.
