Angel Reese couldn’t hold back the tears after receiving major career news on Tuesday night.
The Chicago Sky forward is an All-Star and will play in her first such game as a rookie later this month. Reese was informed of her selection after she helped her team beat the Atlanta Dream on the road and was reduced to tears.
The former LSU star was recently named the WNBA’s Rookie of the Year for the month of June, having set a league record for most consecutive double-doubles. So it’s been quite a good period for her.
“They just told me I’m an All-Star and I mean, I’m just so happy. I know the work I put in,” she said while crying.
“Coming into this league, so many people doubted me and didn’t think my game would translate, and I wouldn’t be the player that I was in college or better or would be worse and wouldn’t be where I am right now.”
The rookie also had some praise for her coach, Teresa Weatherspoon, whom she described as “special.”

Angel Reese Will Team Up With Caitlin Clark
Angel Reese’s rival, Caitlin Clark, has also been selected as an All-Star. The rookies are the only first-time inclusions on the roster and will be teammates as they’re going to play the U.S. women’s basketball squad.
“I don’t think I’ve ever been her teammate before, even at USA Basketball,” Clark said after finding out, per ESPN. “I know people will be really excited about it, but I hope it doesn’t take away from everyone else.”
“It will be fun for all of us.”
The All-Star Game, scheduled for July 20, will take place at the Footprint Center in Phoenix. It’s expected to be the most-watched All-Star Game game in WNBA history.
