Las Vegas Aces star center A’ja Wilson is the frontrunner for the 2024 WNBA MVP award with her incredible statistics. The two-time WNBA champion, who is leading the league in points and blocks, has broken the WNBA single-season rebounding record. After surpassing injured Angel Reese, Wilson’s response in a post-game interview left social media in splits.
On Tuesday, the Aces beat the Seattle Storm 85-72, and Wilson registered seven rebounds to surpass Chicago Sky rookie Angel Reese in the WNBA single-season rebounding. Before getting injured, Reese recorded 446 rebounds, averaging 13.1 per game.
In a post-game interview, A’ja Wilson reflected on her record-breaking 451 rebounds in 2024. She said, “That’s cool. I don’t hunt rebounds so it’s not something that is always on my mind when it comes to just getting the basketball for my team. … When it comes to getting them to get them, I’m not focused on that. I’m focused on putting the ball in the hoop.”
On her record-breaking achievement, Wilson said, “I mean, it’s a blessing. This league is tough, so if my name can be in the record books in some sort of way, it’s a blessing. So that’s cool.”
