WNBA star Brittney Griner returned to the courtroom this Friday. The All-Star made a statement by walking in with a powerful image in her hand.
Griner walked into a Moscow courtroom with a picture of WNBA players wearing No. 42 jerseys in her honor for this year’s All-Star Game.
Earlier this month, Griner showed up holding a photo of her wife Cherelle.
Lawyers for the imprisoned WNBA star told a Russian court Friday that Griner has a doctor’s note recommending she use cannabis to treat pain. This news comes a week after the Phoenix Mercury star pleaded guilty to possessing vape canisters containing cannabis oil in her luggage at Moscow’s Sheremetyevo Airport in February.
“The attending physician gave Brittney recommendations for the use of medical cannabis. The permission was issued on behalf of the Arizona Department of Health,” Griner’s lawyer Maria Blagovolina said Friday during Griner’s fourth hearing since her arrest, reported The Associated Press.
Griner pleaded guilty to charges of smuggling drugs into Russia but added that she had no intention of breaking any laws, according to a statement released by her attorneys.

“I was in a rush packing and the cartridges accidentally ended up in my bags,” Griner said.
The next hearing in Griner’s case is scheduled for July 26. If convicted, the basketball star faces up to 10 years in prison.
