Wall Street Journal reporter Evan Gershkovich was detained in Yekaterinburg by the FSB and later formally arrested by a Moscow court. He is the first journalist to be accused of spying by Russia since 1986.
Brittney Griner, who was in prison in Russia until this past December, is now weighing in on Russia’s detainment of an American journalist.
Griner took to Instagram and released a statement.
“Every American who is taken is ours to fight for and every American returned is a win for us all,” Griner said in a statement with her wife, Cherelle.
President Joe Biden has urged Russia to release the journalist, but it appears this will not be an easy task as it took some months before they could negotiate a trade between Russia and the USA to get Griner free.
Evan Gershkovich was reporting in Yekaterinburg when he was detained Wednesday on charges the Biden administration called “ridiculous.”
