Phoenix Mercury standout forward Brittney Griner has finally returned to her team this weekend after she had to suddenly step away from the team to deal with her mental health.
Griner is still dealing with the fact that she was detained in Russia and then sentenced to prison time in 2022 before returning to the United States at the end of the year, thanks to a trade from President Biden who sent the Merchant of Death back to Russia.
The WNBA All-Star spoke out about the importance of mental health.
“You can’t plan for when you might need some time,” Griner said.
“I just want to shout out the Phoenix Mercury organization. From the jump, they were there for me, making sure I was good, letting me know that at any moment if I needed some time off, I could do that.”
Fans are now praising her for her actions and strength to step away to get herself together.

Griner returned to the basketball court on Saturday after a three-game absence from the Phoenix Mercury while she focused on her mental health. However, that didn’t stop the Seattle Storm from delivering an upset to the Phoenix Mercury.
Griner had 22 points for the Mercury after sitting out the previous three games and Diana Taurasi had 28 points in the game.
The 6-foot-9 center is averaging 18.2 points and 6.7 rebounds over 20 games this season.
The Mercury are 7-20 on the year.
