Bad news for Griner just came down, as a court in Russia has extended the detention for the U.S.A. basketball star.
Griner, who was detained in February, will remain in custody at least through July 2nd.
In May, a State Department official announced that Griner has been officially classified as “wrongfully detained” and announced her case is being handled by the office of the US Special Presidential Envoy for Hostage Affairs (SPEHA), Roger Carstens.
Griner, a two-time Olympic gold medalist who plays in Russia during the WNBA offseason, was arrested in February at a Moscow airport and accused by Russian authorities of smuggling significant amounts of a narcotic substance, an offense punishable by up to 10 years in prison.
