Angel Reese and Caitlin Clark have had a contrasting start to their WNBA careers. While Caitlin has suffered 6 defeats in 7 games with her Indiana Fever side, Reese had a better start with a 2-2 record with Chicago Sky.
After Sky beat the unstoppable Liberty on Thursday night, the former LSU forward took to social media and seemingly took a shot at Caitlin Clark. In a deleted X (formerly known as Twitter) post she wrote, “And that’s on getting a WIN in a packed area not just ’cause of one player on our charter flight.”
After the post, the 22-year-old faced a backlash from the fans, which led to the deletion. While the fans were at it expressing their disapproval of her cheeky jibe, racial insults were thrown, according to her mother. Angel Reese’s mom, Angel Webb Reese, came to her defense and fired back at the critics.
The two have quite a history. Last month, Caitlin Clark’s Iowa Hawkeyes sent the LSU Tigers packing in the final eight of the NCAA women’s championship. In the 2023 edition of the event, it was Reese who took the championship home by beating Iowa and taunting Clark after the win. The recent controversy only added a layer to the rivalry, but the firing wasn’t one-sided.
Caitlin Clark Fires Back at Angel Reese
After Angel Reese’s post-deletion controversy, Caitlin Clark was asked about the talks surrounding her. The first overall draft pick of 2024 answered in her collected demeanor, “To be honest, I’m not really on social media. I’ve got to treat this like it’s my job. My job is to compete and play basketball every single day. I think the more attention we can get on every team around this league is going to help it get better and better.”
