The XFL was on show this weekend, having kicked off on Saturday. And, safe to say, football fans were quite pleased with what they saw.
The league is back after two failed tries but, given what took place in the opening round of games, we hope it’s here to stay.
Apart from all of the exciting plays, there were several other features fans want to see the NFL adopt. One of those came in the form of the review system from the very transparent command center.
The revamped league’s version of the “onside kick” also came into play on Sunday while the St. Louis Battlehawks trailed the San Antonio Brahmas 15-12 with just over a minute to play. Instead of taking an onside kick, which would require them to try to kick within 10 yards and attempt to recover the ball themselves, they did something else (because the XFL doesn’t actually have onside kicks).
The XFL’s version is a 4th-and-15, which worked out very well for the Battlehawks as they ended up winning the game 18-15.
The rule was apparently considered by the NFL in the past but it didn’t get enough votes. It appears fans might want the owners to reconsider…

In case you’re wondering whether teams can do this after every touchdown, they can’t. They’d have to be trailing in the fourth quarter for this to become an option.
