In the XFL version 2.0 of the league, the Houston Roughnecks seemed to be the dominant squad that was poised to make it all the way to the championship game that would’ve been held on their homefield at TDECU Stadium.
TDECU Stadium is on the campus of the University of Houston. We say that because the university is listed among the largest creditors in the XFL’s bankruptcy filings released Monday.
Owned by Vince McMahon’s Alpha Entertainment, the XFL filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy after the league suspended operations and terminated all its employees due to the coronavirus pandemic.
UH leased out office space and TDECU Stadium for Roughnecks’ home games and they are owed $294,461.90 in unsecured claims for venue costs.
Not only that, the XFL also owes Roughnecks head coach June Jones nearly $584,000.

It’s just a horrible turn of events for a football league that did everything right this time around, only to get blindsided by a global pandemic. We may never see the XFL try for a third time in our lifetime.
