Well, the XFL announcers are certainly doing their part in making the broadcasts for the relaunched league more creative.
During Sunday’s game between the St. Louis Battlehawks and the San Antonio Brahmas, ex-Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo was savagely roasted by the announcer:
That “Romo” playing football in Texas in the month of February is kicker John Parker Romo, who opened the scoring in the game on a field goal.
Tony Romo, now an NFL commentator at CBS, enjoyed a mostly successful career with the Cowboys that spanned from 2003 to 2016. Though he was a four-time Pro Bowler who led Dallas to the postseason four times (2006, 2007, 2009 and 2014), Romo was constantly criticized for his inability to take America’s Team on deep playoff runs.
Looking back, of course, it’s not fair to fully blame Romo for the Cowboys’ shortcomings. He played through a variety of injuries and would have probably led the team to the 2014 NFC Championship Game if not for the “Dez didn’t catch it” controversy.”
Romo suffered a back injury in 2016 preseason play and was ruled out for most of the season. Rookie Dak Prescott played well in Romo’s absence and led the Cowboys to the top seed in the NFC. Romo opted to retire after the 2016 season rather than continue playing elsewhere.
