The XFL was supposed to take the country by storm in 2020 for their much anticipated return after one failed season back in the early 2000’s.
Through five weeks, fans were coming out and tuning in, but everything would come to a halt after the coronavirus descended upon the NBA, and slowly but surely, every major sports league would take measures to make sure fans and players were safe by postponing or cancelling events. That included the XFL.
If you thought this was the end of the league, you thought wrong.
Sources told @DannyJonesXFL that Vince McMahon “is more determined than ever to continue the league and has already funded the 2021 season.”

The second season of the XFL being funded was already known when ESPN reported in 2018 that McMahon was expected to spend $500 million in the reboot league’s first three seasons. He started his funding by selling $100 million worth of WWE stock and putting it into Alpha Entertainment.
McMahon’s plan was to lose around $375 million in the first three years of the XFL relaunch, according to Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Radio. Without finishing the 1st season, that number has certainly grown much larger.
“The way it’s structured is that Vince is probably gonna lose $375 million on this league and he will and he knows and that’s what he’s gonna do and at the end of those three years the idea is that he will be able to get television deals that will total over $125 million a year which will cover his losses and then he’s okay. You know… there’s a lot of factors involved in that. Again, the ratings are one of them. If he can get… if these stations feel it’s valuable to pay that much. It’s not as long of a shot as everyone thinks.”
