The XFL, the football league owned by Dani Garcia and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, are on the verge of something spectacular for spring football. It was announced on Tuesday they could be on the verge of merging with the USFL.
Axios independently reported on the progress of talks on Tuesday, with regulatory approval and combining of stakeholders among the remaining hurdles the sides would need to clear.
Axios says the two leagues are in “advanced talks to merge.”
The XFL and USFL have competed against each other for ratings and fan support while attempting to prove themselves as the minor leagues for NFL hopefuls, and now there’s talks of them joining forces.
The USFL is presently under the ownership of Fox Corp while the XFL belongs to a partnership consisting of Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, Dany Garcia, and RedBird Capital Partners.
The aim would be for the two to combine before the 2024 season. An announcement of the merger is possible by the end of the week, the report adds.

The USFL has turned a profit with the help of a TV deal from NBC while the XFL lost a reported $60 million in their first season of a third relaunch of the popular league.
The championship games for each league drew over 1 million viewers, with the USFL’s 1.2 million and the XFL attracting 1.4 million. The regular season games averaged just north of 600,000 viewers for each game.
