The XFL has wrapped up the first regular season in what’s a second comeback for the football league.
Launched twice by Vince McMahon, the XFL is back under new management, with Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and his ex-wife Dany Garcia taking over. The revamped league has provided a whole lot of excitement while the NFL remains dormant in its offseason. And, although folks have urged the bigger league to adopt some of its rules, they don’t seem to love its playoff format at all.
Fans have actually called for the XFL to “fold” in the wake of one of its best teams missing the playoffs due to a controversial rule.
The St. Louis Battlehawks won’t be going to the playoffs despite finishing 7-3, one of the best records in the league. The Battlehawks soundly dispatched the Orlando Guardians 53-28 on Sunday and their record tied them with the Seattle Sea Dragons in second place in the North Division, yet they can’t play any further as only the top two teams in each division are allowed to progress to the playoffs.
The D.C. Defenders ran off to a 9-1 record to best the division, as well as the league, but three teams tied for second place, with the Battlehawks, Sea Dragons, and Houston Roughnecks all finishing 7-3. This set up a tiebreaker that resulted in St. Louis missing out while the Arlington Renegades are set to progress with a losing record of 4-6.
Supporters were understandably ticked off and took to Twitter to vent. You could check some of their reactions right below:

Some even went so far as to call the league “rigged”:
On the other hand, some fans have defended the league, pointing out it’s just how divisions work.
Doesn’t seem like a rule The Rock will be in any hurry to change, despite the cries.
