It doesn’t appear that Colin Kaepernick will be returning to the NFL anytime soon. And fans who were hoping to see him play in the XFL are likely to be disappointed as Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson has expressed pessimism at the prospect.
The Rock recently revealed having met with the former San Francisco 49ers quarterback, whom he invited to play in the XFL. But he doesn’t think Kap will take him up on his offer.
“Good meeting, looked to create opportunity for him but I don’t think it’ll happen,” the actor wrote on Instagram. “We’ll see.”
Kaepernick has been out of the NFL since 2017 on the back of his protest of police brutality and racism by kneeling during the national anthem. He has been trying to fashion a return since then but hasn’t found any success, though he has come close.
His agent contacted the New York Jets via a letter in an attempt to get him on the team following the season-ending Achilles injury to Aaron Rodgers but that hit a wall as well.
Kap, now 35, played for the 49ers from 2011 to 2016 after being selected in the second round of the 2011 NFL Draft and fired the team to a Super Bowl appearance in 2012.
