WWE legend and Hollywood actor Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson had an awesome pump-up speech for the XFL players ahead of the season opener on Saturday.
After a three-year wait, the XFL finally returned to operations on Saturday. The first game of the saw the Vegas Vipers visit the Arlington Renegades. This is the first of two games for Saturday, with the Orlando Guardians visiting the Houston Roughnecks later on.
Before the game, The Rock opened things up by giving the players and awesome motivational speech about how the players’ dreams are only beginning now. He concluded it with, “XFL, let’s ball out baby” in a WWE-style promo:
In 2020, The Rock partnered with ex-wife Dany Garcia and Gerry Cardinale (the founder RedBird Capital Partners) to purchase the XFL before it could go to auction.
WWE head Vince McMahon launched the XFL back in 2001, but the league closed its doors after one season due to financial issues. The league was relaunched in 2020, but the season was shut down early because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
But thanks to The Rock, Garcia and Cardinale, the XFL was given a third opportunity. The season will consist of 10 weeks, with the postseason beginning on the Apr. 29-30 weekend.
