With the second installment of the XFL coming in 2020, the league will pride itself on being much different than the NFL and that includes the testing of a drug that is frowned upon in other sports leagues.
XFL Commissioner Oliver Luck told Sports Illustrated that they would “prefer not to test for marijuana.”
Making marijuana use a non-issue would be a huge step for the XFL and would most definitely see some high level talented NFL players in the league due to a possible suspension or impromptu retirement from players wanting to be able to be free of the scrutiny surrounding a plant that is basically legal almost everywhere else.
Luck went on to state to SI that he hasn’t considered whether that would make players like receiver Josh Gordon, who has been suspended multiple times, eligible to play in the XFL.
Gordon would be a long shot to play in the league since he is still under contract with the Patriots and the Standard Player Contract prohibits players from playing in other leagues.
