It is being reported by Tom Pelissero of NFL Media that former NFL running back Phillip Lindsay is expected to sign a deal with the Seattle Sea Dragons of the XFL. The thinking here is that Lindsay, who is still only 28 years old, will use this opportunity as a showcase to NFL teams to prove he still has plenty of gas left in the tank.
Lindsay went undrafted in 2018 out of Colorado but wound up signing a three-year deal with the Denver Broncos as an undrafted free agent and made the 53-man roster. He had instant success as a rookie as he rushed for over 1,000 yards, added ten total touchdowns and even made the Pro Bowl.
Lindsay would follow up his successful rookie season with a second consecutive 1,000 yard rushing season in 2019 and it appeared he was well on his way to becoming a household name. However, injuries in 2020 limited him to appear in just 11 games, finishing with just over 500 rushing yards and only one total touchdown.
Since the 2021 season, the former Pro Bowler has been on three different teams and his career has been in steady decline. The XFL presents an excellent opportunity for former NFL players to prove they still got it and make their way back into football’s top league. Many football fans were excited to hear that Lindsay will be returning to football, here are some of their reactions:
