The Orlando Guardians pulled off an incredible play during an XFL showdown with the St. Louis Battlehawks this Saturday, scoring an unlikely touchdown off a fake punt.
The 1-8 Guardians, who aren’t having a great season in 2023, with the XFL having returned in February, got blown out with a 53-28 scoreline. But they produced the most impressive play of the contest and seem to have a punter who’s also an excellent thrower of the football.
Taking the field vs. the Battlehawks on Saturday, they ended up with a lead courtesy of a fake punt that saw the ball travel well-nigh from one end zone to the other. Former Ole Miss punter Mac Brown threw a pass to Jordan Thomas on fourth-and-21, with the opposition expecting a kick downfield.
Thomas, who was drafted by the Houston Texans in 2018, had good coverage on him but managed to create some separation before making the key reception and running 84 yards to score a touchdown.

This is Brown’s second touchdown pass off a fake punt in as many games and NFL scouts will certainly be paying attention. As for Thomas, he had no business catching that ball, let alone covering that much ground.

Perhaps both players could earn opportunities to get on NFL teams for training camp ahead of the 2023 season.
