Gregg Williams is coaching today with a heavy heart.
The XFL’s Defenders went with longtime HBCU head coach Reggie Barlow as their head coach this season. His defensive coordinator is longtime assistant Gregg Williams.
The defenders are currently playing the Seattle Sea Dragons in a playoff game from Audi Field.
In the midst of that game, a reporter spoke with Williams about what he had written on his board on the sidelines.
Gregg Williams revealed live on-air that his father-in-law, Mike Shannon, passed away the night before.
Williams stated that his father-in-law would be upset with him if he went ‘soft.’

Here’s how social media responded:
Williams is known for his aggressive and intense coaching style, often emphasizing a “no-nonsense” approach to the game. He has served as a defensive coordinator for several NFL teams, including the New Orleans Saints, St. Louis Rams, and Cleveland Browns.
He gained national attention back in 2012 when he was suspended by the NFL for his role in the “Bountygate” scandal, in which the New Orleans Saints were found to have paid bonuses to players who injured opponents. Despite the controversy, Williams has continued to be a respected coach in the league and has helped lead his teams to numerous successful seasons.
He is now showing what he got in the XFL.
