Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson is starting off 2022 with a bang.
Johnson, the new league co-owner along with his ex-wife Dany Garcia, posted on Instagram earlier this week to announce that XFL’s 2023 training camps begin January 4, 2023.
“This one goes out all us football fans out there, this is big, and this is exciting news,” The Rock said in his video.
“Guys, I’m so excited to let you know that one year from today, in exactly 365 days, we will kick off our official 2023 XFL training camps.
“I’m so excited about this, I know you guys are excited too, and all month long, this month, our team of XFL executives are out there scouting the next great players. And I can tell you this: as an XFL owner, and a man who has proudly put these calloused, dinosaur hands in the dirt all for the love of football, I can tell you that the XFL players will be the hardest, and hungriest players in the room.
“So football nation, we are building this for you. The XFL is watching, all for the love of football. Here we go, one year from today.”

During the 2.0 version of the league, the Houston Roughnecks had a league best 5-0 record as the league was forced to shutdown due to the start of the global pandemic that is still going on in 2022.
The XFL closed its doors in April 2020 and did not complete its inaugural season due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Things have gotten a little better since then, so hopefully the 3.0 version will be the charm for the upstart league to finally stay around for more than one season.
The Rock played football at the University of Miami before his WWE career; he teamed with Gerry Cardinale’s RedBird Capital to buy the XFL, splitting the $15 million cost. Johnson’s business partner (and ex-wife) Dany Garcia is also a stakeholder in the league.
