Not only has Dez Bryant not had a 1,000 yard season in the NFL since 2014, he hasn’t played a lick of football since the end of the 2017 season. He was 29-years-old when that happened, but now he’ll be 32 this year and s ready to return to the game he loves.
When he signed with the Saints in 2018, he suffered a torn Achilles tendon in practice, and although he was healthy by the start of the 2019 season, he elected to sit out the entire year. Dez wants to play football, but not for the XFL.
“Nah, not at all,” Bryant said when asked by Dallas’ Fox 4 if he’d consider joining the alternative league, via Lorenzo Reyes of USA Today. “I know I can still play. That’s not an issue for me. I have high confidence in myself. No disrespect to the XFL, I just know I can play in [the NFL]. That’s not a question.”
The 2010 first-round pick caught 69 passes for 838 yards and six touchdowns in 2017 and his last 3 seasons before that were far less productive than his 2012-2014 prime.
Dez has stated many times that teams have been reaching out to him the past 2 years, so there is no doubt there is interest in signing him. We’ll have to see what he has left in the tank.
