DC Defenders fans weren’t happy when stadium security took away their beer snake, and they retaliated by…throwing lemons onto the field.
The fans at Audi Field interrupted the Defenders’ season opener against the visiting Seattle Sea Dragons by throwing lemons onto the field. The Defenders were trailing 18-8 at the time of the lemon-throwing incident, but they rallied for 14 unanswered points to stun the Sea Dragons.

The XFL was initially launched by WWE chairman Vince McMahon in 2001, but financial woes forced it to shut down after one year. The league relaunched in 2020 but had to be shut down early because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The league was set to hit auction later that year. But Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson, business partner Dany Garcia and RedBird Capital Partners Gerry Cardinale partnered up to purchase the league for $15 million.
The XFL returned to action this weekend with four games. There are eight teams in the league, and the regular season consists of 10 weeks. The postseason will begin on the Apr. 29-30 weekend, with the XFL Championship Game slated to take place on May 13 at San Antonio’s Alamodome.
