Over the weekend, the D.C. Defenders secured a victory over the St. Louis BattleHawks in their Week 3 matchup in the XFL, but it came with some controversy.
Defenders defensive lineman Davin Bellamy sacked BattleHawks quarterback A.J. McCarron to bring the game to an end, but as players began going back to the sideline, a scuffle broke out between multiple players.
Several flags were thrown, but they weren’t the only things being tossed on that field. Somebody launched a helmet into the sky and out of camera view as players continued to brawl.
D.C. would win the 34-28 to improve to 3-0 on the season while St. Louis fell to 2-1. The Defenders had a double-digit lead at one point, but the BattleHawks fought back and made it a close game.
Defenders quarterback Jordan Ta’amu was 11 of 20 with 196 passing yards and a touchdown pass. He added 22 yards and a touchdown on the ground.
McCarron was 26 of 42 with 262 passing yards and four touchdown passes.
