On Sunday, Cardale Jones hit a snag in his career when he tossed a 1st quarter interception during the DC Defenders’ win over the St. Louis Battlehawks. He would not be seen playing for the remainder of the game.
It was Jones’ 7th thrown interception in four games.
Backup QB Tyree Jackson would come in after that and lead the team to a touchdown on his first drive and ultimately secure the vctory for the team.
Despite what social media thought, Cardale wasn’t benched. According to USA TODAY, coach Pep Hamilton that the plan all along was for Jones to come out after two possessions and that his interception just came as a coincidence.
Jones will remain the starter going forward.
“That was Cardale just trying to make a play. I don’t fault him for that,” Hamilton added. “That was a heck of a play by the safety or whoever it was that picked the ball off.”

Jones has completed 54% of his passes and tossed four touchdowns to seven interceptions.
The win on Sunday against a good St. Louis Battlehawks team put the Defenders back in first place in the XFL East at 3-2.
