Former Cleveland Browns receiver Antonio Callaway lost his suspension appeal to a 10-game suspension for violation of the NFL’s substance abuse policy back in November, which had the Browns cutting him from the team after less than two seasons.
He will now be back on the field sooner than expected, but not in the National Football League.
On Thursday, the Tampa Bay Vipers of the newly reformed XFL announced that they have added Callaway via waivers.
Callaway was suspended for the first four games of the 2019 NFL season due to violating the league’s substance abuse policy, ultimately getting suspended for the final seven games as well as 3 games into 2020.
Callaway compiled 51 receptions for 675 yards and five touchdowns in 20 games in Cleveland. He played at Florida from 2015-17, but he missed all of 2017 due to suspension.
The XFL, which features eight teams, begins play on Feb. 8.

The 10-week regular season runs until mid-April and will be followed by a four-team playoff.
