A Wimbledon match ground to a stop on Tuesday after two protestors stormed the court and began throwing confetti everywhere.
Sho Shimabukuro was playing out the first round against Grigor Dimitrov when a male and female wearing T-shirts reading “Just Stop Oil” ran onto the playing surface before emptying boxes of orange paper and jigsaw puzzle pieces while the players looked on in bewilderment.
The woman was quickly escorted off the court but the man sat down on it with his legs crossed until security yanked him away.
The activist group known as Just Stop Oil took credit for the disruption in a series of tweets on Wednesday morning. They are apparently known for this sort of thing.
In their posts, they claimed that the court invasion was in protest of Wimbledon’s sponsorship deal with Barclays. Just Stop Oil has accused Barclays officials of having “given £30 billion to oil and gas companies” over the last two years.

It took several minutes for a crew to clean the confetti up so the match could be resumed, but rain held things up as well thereafter. Excellent timing, right?
The confetti has been described as “environmentally-friendly orange confetti glitter and jigsaw pieces.”
