The Pro Tour of Pickleball is continuing its meteoric rise as it acquires a former top 5 tennis player.
The Pro Tour, known as the PPA, announced that star Tennis Player Genie Bouchard has signed with the pickleball league and is set to begin in 2024. Bouchard, 29, is now the second tennis player to leave following the 2023 US Open and join the rising league.
Bouchard was once ranked in the top 5 in Tennis, but has dealt with injuries ever since. The Canadian tennis player was a former Wimbledon runner up in 2014, losing to Petra Kvitova, but was named the World Tennis Associations’ Most Improved Player the same year.
Bouchard recently failed to advance in the US open, where she lost to Dayana Yastremska in three sets in the qualifying round. There is no word from Bouchard on whether her tennis career is over or not.
As the PPA continues to grow in reputation and popularity, signing one of the biggest name in tennis will help legitimize the league. Set to begin her tour in 2024, we wish the best to the former Wimbledon finalist.
