A female tennis player is taking a break from the sport, citing mental health and burnout. She’s also had to field internet trolls speaking about her body, specifically her “giant boobs.”
Amanda Anisimova, currently No. 46 in the world, made it to the Wimbledon quarters last year, beating Coco Gauff in the process. But she’s had enough for the time being and has announced she’s set to talk away from the court after some struggles in 2023.
The 21-year-old is 3-8 this season after losing in the first round of the Madrid Open last month. She’s since taken to Instagram to reveal her plans for the immediate future.
“I’ve really been struggling with my mental health and burnout since the summer of 2022,” she wrote. “It’s become unbearable being at tennis tournaments. At this point my priority is my mental well-being and taking a break for some time. I’ve worked as hard as I could to push through it. I will miss being out there, and I appreciate all the continuous support.”
As to whether the criticism regarding her body factored into her decision is unknown. But it does come in the wake of the New Jersey native getting trolled, with someone commenting on one of her IG pics with the following: “The most unathletic body ever! Narrow shoulders and giant boobs.”

Based on her post, which you could see below, she didn’t seem all that bothered. Plus someone pointing out big boobs is no reason to quit a sport, right?
She responded to the comment with a “Thank you” and a kiss emoji.
“Idk what to think? lol,” she wrote as the caption. “The amount of people who comment on my body every day on social media… will never understand what the hyper fixation is about.”
