Stephen Jackson is a former American professional basketball player, born on April 5, 1978, in Port Arthur, Texas. Jackson played college basketball at Butler County Community College and the University of Arizona before being drafted in the second round of the 1997 NBA draft by the Phoenix Suns. He spent his early years in the NBA bouncing around between teams before finally finding a home with the Indiana Pacers in 2004.
During his time with the Pacers, Jackson was a key player in the team’s run to the Eastern Conference Finals in 2004, and he was also a member of the “Malice at the Palace” brawl in 2004, which resulted in a significant suspension for Jackson and several other players involved.
After his time with the Pacers, Jackson went on to play for several more teams, including winning an NBA championship with the San Antonio Spurs in 2003. He retired from the NBA in 2014 with career averages of 15.1 points, 3.9 rebounds, and 3.1 assists per game.
Off the court, Jackson has been known for his activism and speaking out on social justice issues, particularly in the wake of the murder of his friend, George Floyd, in 2020. He has also worked as a basketball analyst and commentator, appearing on various networks and programs.
