Sean Payton began his coaching career at San Diego State University as an assistant and continued on to have many assistant coaching positions at both the collegiate level and in the NFL. He started as the head coach of New Orleans in 2006 and won the AP Coach of the Year that same season. He helped guide the Saints to three NFC Championship games and nine total playoff berths with seven division titles. He has the second-longest single-team tenure in the NFL behind Bill Belichick.
In 2012, it was reported that Payton was involved in the New Orleans Saints bounty scandal, where “bounties” were allegedly paid out for contact that would try to injure players on the opposing teams. He was suspended for the entire 2012 season.
After retiring from coaching, Payton became a part of the Fox NFL Sunday panel.
