Rudy Gobert is from Aisne, which is in the north of France. He declared for the 2013 NBA Draft and set NBA Draft Combine records at the time for wingspan (7 feet 8 1/2 inches) and standing reach (9 feet 7 inches). He was selected 27th overall by the Denver Nuggets and was traded on draft night to the Utah Jazz. He became a full-time starter in the 2015-16 season and made his first All-NBA appearance in the 2016-17 season after he became the NBA blocked shots leader.
In 2020, he had the first recorded case of COVID-19 in the NBA. After he and two teammates all tested positive, the NBA postponed the 2019-20 season for a few months.
