Matthew Stafford is a quarterback in the NFL and currently plays for the Los Angeles Rams. Stafford played college ball for the University of Georgia from 2006-2008, where he finished three years with a 3-0 in bowl games and a 6-3 record in rivalry games. He entered the 2009 NFL Draft and was the first overall draft pick by the Detroit Lions. He signed a six-year deal that guaranteed $41.7 million. Stafford was their primary starting quarterback from 2009-2020. He concluded his rookie season with 2,267 passing yards and 13 touchdowns.
Stafford had a significant season-ending injury in 2010, and in 2011 Stafford was named a Pro Bowl alternate and the 2011 Comeback Player of the Year, and he became the fourth NFL quarterback to throw for over 5,000 yards in a single season.
He led Detroit to two further postseason runs in 2014 and 2016, and in 2017 he signed a 5-year, $135 million contract extension with $92 million guaranteed, making him the highest-paid player in the NFL at the time. He was traded to the Rams in 2021 and led them to a Super Bowl victory. He became the first player in NFL history to pass for at least 6,000 yards and 50 touchdowns in the regular season and postseason combined all while leading a team to the Super Bowl.
