Marcus Peters is a professional American football player who currently plays as a cornerback in the National Football League (NFL) and is a free agent. Marcus Peters was born on January 9, 1993, in Oakland, California, and attended McClymonds High School, where he played football and basketball. He went on to play college football at the University of Washington, where he was a standout player for three seasons. In his final year, he was named a consensus All-American and won the Jim Thorpe Award, given annually to the best defensive back in college football.
In the 2015 NFL Draft, Peters was selected by the Kansas City Chiefs in the first round, 18th overall. He quickly established himself as one of the best cornerbacks in the league, earning Pro Bowl honors in each of his first two seasons. He was also named the NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year in 2015.
After three seasons with the Chiefs, Peters was traded to the Los Angeles Rams in 2018. He played for the Rams for two seasons before being traded again, this time to the Baltimore Ravens in 2019. Marcus Peters had an impressive start with the Baltimore Ravens in 2019, intercepting passes from Russell Wilson, Ryan Finley, and Jared Goff and getting into an altercation with Jalen Ramsey. He signed a three-year, $42 million contract extension with the Ravens that year. Peters continued to make impactful plays during the 2020 season, including intercepting passes from Deshaun Watson, Joe Burrow, Philip Rivers, and Ryan Tannehill. He unfortunately suffered a torn ACL during practice in 2021 but returned in the 2022 season to have a strong game against the New England Patriots.
Throughout his NFL career, Peters has been known for his aggressive and physical playing style, as well as his ability to make game-changing plays. He has recorded over 30 interceptions and 100 passes defended in his career, and has been a key contributor to several top-ranked defenses.
