Kareem Hunt is an American football running back who is currently a free agent for the National Football League (NFL). Kareem Hunt was born on August 6, 1995, in Willoughby, Ohio. Hunt attended South High School in Willoughby and later went on to play college football at the University of Toledo. During his college career, Hunt rushed for 4,945 yards and scored 44 touchdowns. He was drafted by the Kansas City Chiefs in the third round of the 2017 NFL Draft. In his rookie season, he quickly established himself as one of the league’s best running backs, leading the league in rushing yards with 1,327 yards.
Hunt’s career took a controversial turn in 2018 when a video surfaced of him assaulting a woman in a hotel hallway. The incident led to his release from the Chiefs, but he was later signed by the Cleveland Browns in 2019. Kareem Hunt signed with the Cleveland Browns in 2019 while under investigation for assault allegations, and was subsequently suspended for the first eight games of the 2019 season. He underwent sports hernia surgery in August 2019 and resumed practicing with the team in October. Hunt was reinstated in November and played out the remainder of the season, finishing with 43 carries for 179 yards and two rushing touchdowns, and 37 receptions for 285 receiving yards and one touchdown.
In 2020, Hunt signed a two-year contract extension with the Browns and played in 16 games, finishing with 841 rushing yards and six rushing touchdowns, and 304 receiving yards and five receiving touchdowns. Hunt was injured and placed on injured reserve in the 2021 season, but returned to play in eight games and finished with 386 rushing yards and four touchdowns, as well as 174 receiving yards.
In 2022, Hunt requested a trade from the Browns, but the team declined, and he started the season with the team, scoring one rushing touchdown and one receiving touchdown in the first game of the season.
Throughout his career, Hunt has been recognized for his impressive running ability, elusiveness, and versatility as a receiver out of the backfield. Despite the off-field issues that have marred his career, Hunt remains a dynamic player and a valuable asset to the Browns’ offense.
