Kareem Abdul-Jabbar played college basketball for UCLA and helped them win three consecutive national championships. He entered the 1969 NBA Draft and was selected first overall by the Milwaukee Bucks. He helped lead the Bucks to their first NBA Championship in 1971, and he was traded to the Lakers in 1975. Kareem stayed with the Lakers for the remainder of his career and helped them win five NBA Championships. He retired at age 42 in 1989 and was the NBA’s all-time leading scorer.
Since retiring, Kareem has acted in movies and has written best-selling books. In 2012, he was selected by Hillary Clinton to be a U.S. global cultural ambassador, and in 2016, Barack Obama awarded him the Presidential Medal of Freedom.
