Justin was drafted with the second overall pick of the 2004 MLB Draft by the Tigers and was the AL Rookie of the Year in 2006. He played for the Tigers for 12 years and helped them win four consecutive American League Central championships and two AL pennants. In 2011, he won the Pitching Triple Crown, the AL Cy Young Award, and the AL MVP Award.
Prior to the 2017 season, the Tigers traded Verlander to the Astros, and in that same season they won the 2017 World Series. In 2019, Justin became the sixth pitcher in MLB history to throw three career no-hitters. He unfortunately sustained an injury that required Tommy John surgery which kept him out of the game for the 2020 and 2021 seasons, but he returned in 2022 and led the Astros to their second World Championship.
