Jameis Winston attended Florida State and played both football and baseball for the school. In his freshman year with the football team he helped lead them to an undefeated 13-0 regular season record. He was awarded the Heisman trophy in 2013 and was only the second freshman to win the award.
Winston was drafted first overall in the 2015 NFL Draft and signed a four-year $23.35 million rookie contract. He became the third rookie quarterback to pass for over 4,000 yards in a season and continued on to do the same thing in his second season in the NFL. In his fifth year with the team he had 5,109 passing yards and 33 passing touchdowns, but ultimately had 7 of his 30 interceptions returned for a touchdown. In 2020, the Buccaneers decided to replace him with Tom Brady.
In 2020, Winston signed a one-year contract with the New Orleans Saints for $1.1 million. He re-signed with them a year later on another one-year deal worth $12 million and was named the starting quarterback for the 2021 season. In week 8, he tore his ACL and had MCL damage, ending his season. He signed another contract extension for two years at $28 million, but in mid-September of the 2022 season, he suffered four fractures in his back.
