Gardner Minshew is a professional American football quarterback currently playing for the Indianapolis Colts of the National Football League (NFL). He won the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award as the nation’s top senior quarterback in 2018 while playing for Washington State University. Gardner Minshew was born on May 16, 1996, in Flowood, Mississippi, and grew up in Brandon, Mississippi. He played college football at East Carolina University and Washington State University. He began his college career at East Carolina, where he played for two seasons before transferring to Washington State for his final two seasons.
In 2018, Minshew had a breakout season at Washington State, throwing for 4,779 yards and 38 touchdowns, which earned him the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award as the nation’s top senior quarterback. He was then selected by the Jacksonville Jaguars in the sixth round of the 2019 NFL Draft.
Minshew became the starting quarterback for the Jaguars in his rookie season and had an impressive debut, setting a franchise record for most passing yards by a rookie in a single game. He finished his rookie season with 21 touchdown passes and just six interceptions.
In 2020, Minshew started the season as the Jaguars’ starting quarterback but was eventually replaced by rookie quarterback Jake Luton and veteran Mike Glennon. He was then traded to the Philadelphia Eagles in 2021, where he serves as a backup quarterback.
In March 2023, Minshew signed a one-year contract with the Indianapolis Colts worth up to $5.5 million with incentives.
Off the field, Minshew is known for his unique personality and style, often seen wearing a headband and sporting a mustache. He has also been featured in several advertising campaigns, including a commercial for the insurance company, Progressive.
