Doc Rivers played point guard in the NBA for the Atlanta Hawks from 1983-1991. In 1988, Rivers played in the NBA All-Star Game. Rivers was traded a few times and ended up retiring after the 1996 season.
He began his coaching career in 1999 with the Orlando Magic where he stayed for more than four seasons. He was fired in 2003 and was picked up as the head coach of the Boston Celtics from 2004-2013. He led the Celtics to an NBA Championship in 2008 after defeating the Los Angeles Lakers. He also led them to the 2010 NBA Finals where they lost to the Lakers in seven games, and in 2013, he gained his 400th win with the Celtics. In 2013, Rivers left Boston to coach the Los Angeles Clippers, and in 2015, he became the first NBA coach to coach his own son, Austin Rivers. He earned his 900th win as head coach in 2019, and he was hired by the 76ers in 2020.
Doc Rivers’s daughter is Callie Rivers who is married to Seth Curry. Interestingly enough, Doc Rivers used to coach Seth Curry.
