Cam played college football for Auburn and won the Heisman Trophy in 2011. He was the first overall draft pick in the 2011 NFL Draft by the Carolina Panthers and made a name for himself in his first season when he set the rookie records for quarterback passing and rushing yards, earning himself the Offensive Rookie of the Year title.
Between 2013-2017, Newton helped bring the Panthers to four playoff appearances and three division titles. In 2015, he was named the MVP and helped Carolina appear in Super Bowl 50. After struggling with injuries and performance issues over the next four years, the Panthers released him and he was picked up by the New England Patriots in 2020. He returned to the Panthers midway through the 2021 season but was not re-signed after.
