Harper graduated from high school early in order to attend the College of Southern Nevada where he won the 2010 Golden Spikes award. He was the first overall pick in the 2010 MLB draft and was selected by the Nationals. He made his first appearance with the team in 2012 and that same year became the youngest position player to play in an All-Star game. He was also named NL Rookie of the Year, and in 2015, at 22 years old, became the youngest MLB player to win the NL MVP.
As a free agent in 2018–2019, he signed a 13-year, $330 million contract with the Phillies, which was the richest contract in the history of North American sports at the time. Many consider him a “five-tool player,” as he can be put in at many different positions and play them all well.
