Brock Purdy is a quarterback in the NFL and currently plays for the San Francisco 49ers. He played college football at Iowa State and was the final overall draft pick in the 2022 NFL Draft. Purdy made headlines as he started his first NFL game as a third-string quarterback in December of 2022 and helped lead his team to victory over the 21-year veteran Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Purdy played College Football for Iowa State and was their starting quarterback his sophomore season. That year he passed for a touchdown in 12 consecutive games, a school record, and he also led the Big-12 in passing yards with 3,982. In his senior year, he had a 71.7% completion rate and threw for 3,188 yards. He currently holds 32 school records and had 14 games with 300-plus passing yards, which nearly tripled the previous school record.
Despite his incredible college ball statistics, he was drafted as the 262nd overall draft pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, a position that is humorously deemed “Mr. Irrelevant”. But Purdy was anything but irrelevant in his debut season. After starting quarterback Trey Lance and backup quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo were both injured, Purdy got the chance to play and became the first “Mr. Irrelevant” to throw a touchdown pass in a regular season game. He was named the 49ers starting quarterback, and on December 11th became the only quarterback to beat Tom Brady in his first career start.
