Bill O’Brien is an American football coach who has worked in both college and professional football and is currently the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach for the New England Patriots of the National Football League (NFL). Bill O’Brien was born on October 23, 1969, in Dorchester, Massachusetts, USA. He attended Brown University, where he played football and graduated with a degree in psychology in 1992. After college, he began his coaching career as an assistant coach at Brown and then moved on to other college coaching positions at Georgia Tech, Maryland, Duke, and Penn State.
In 2012, O’Brien was hired as the head coach of the NFL’s Houston Texans. During his six seasons with the Texans, he led the team to four playoff appearances and two AFC South division titles. However, in 2020, O’Brien was fired after a 0-4 start to the season.
In January 2021, O’Brien was hired by the Alabama Crimson Tide football team as offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach. On January 24th, 2023, he took on the role of offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach for the New England Patriots.
O’Brien is known for his offensive coaching skills and his ability to develop quarterbacks. He has worked with notable players such as Tom Brady, Christian Hackenberg, Deshaun Watson, and Tua Tagovailoa.
Off the field, O’Brien is known for his work with the Penn State Hershey Medical Center and his commitment to raising awareness for pediatric cancer.
