Ben Simmons played one season of college basketball with the LSU Tigers. He entered the 2016 NBA Draft and was selected first overall by the 76ers. He was the first college player to be selected as the first overall pick despite never playing in the NCAA tournament. During the final training camp scrimmage, Simmons broke the fifth metatarsal in his right foot and missed the entire 2016-2017 season. He was able to fully recover and ended up being named the NBA Rookie of the Year in 2018.
In 2021-2022, Simmons decided that he no longer wanted to be a member of the 76ers. He performed a ‘holdout’ and demanded to be traded. He became the most-fined player in NBA history, racking up more than $19 million in fines for missing games through the deadline. Simmons was eventually traded to the Nets.
